Setting up rewards in the shop

PiggyTask does not prescribe any rewards. What the shop offers and what it costs is entirely up to you — matched to your kid and your budget.

Creating a reward

In the parent area under Rewards, New reward creates an entry. Only two fields are required:

  1. Label — what the kid gets. "30 minutes extra screen time", "trip to the cinema", "pocket money bonus", "pick Friday's pizza".
  2. Cost — the price in coins.

Everything else is optional, on purpose: a shop with three entries works just as well as one with thirty.

Who the reward applies to

Under Who is it for? you pick the profiles. With no selection the reward applies to every kid; otherwise it shows "only Ben", or whichever names you picked.

This is more than cosmetic. An eight-year-old and a fourteen-year-old need different incentives — and a reward that is age-appropriate for one reads as silly or unreachable to the other.

Joint rewards

From two profiles onwards a reward can be marked as joint. It then has a total price, and every participating kid can contribute flexibly — there is no fixed split, nobody has to contribute exactly half.

This is meant for the bigger goals that are hard to reach alone: the family outing, the game everyone plays. It is also the one place in PiggyTask where siblings work together instead of collecting side by side.

Controlling availability

Three optional fields constrain a reward:

Time-limited rewards are an effective remedy for the flat spot that tends to arrive after a few weeks — without having to rebuild the whole system.

Redeeming and paying out

The flow deliberately has two steps:

  1. The kid redeems coins for a reward in the shop. It appears for them under "waiting for payout" and for you under open rewards.
  2. You deliver it in the real world and mark it as paid out.

The coins are gone the moment the reward is redeemed — a kid cannot spend them twice while you have not got round to it yet. If a reward does not work out, Return takes it back and refunds the coins in full.

What you should not do is claw back coins a kid already earned as a punishment. Nothing destroys trust in a system faster — more on that in the guide Setting Up a Reward System for Kids.

Reward wishes from your kids

In the shop, kids can submit a wish of their own through Suggest a reward — with a title and, optionally, a coin price they propose. The wish lands with you under reward wishes, where you accept or decline it. On accepting you set the final price; the kid's suggestion is only a suggestion.

This is the small feature with the biggest effect on motivation. A reward a kid came up with themselves pulls far harder than one you set — and you still keep the decision.

Magic coins: the second shop

Alongside normal coins there are magic coins ✨ for cosmetic content — avatar looks and unlocks. Kids exchange normal coins for magic coins; you set the exchange rate in the settings.

That lets you control how attractive the cosmetic route is compared to real-world rewards. Cosmetics themselves are a Premium feature.

Free-tier limits

Without Premium, 5 shop rewards can be active at the same time. If you create more, the newest ones pause automatically — nothing is deleted. Details in Premium and the free-tier limits.

Quick answers

Is there a preset list of rewards?

No. There is no catalogue and no suggestions you have to accept. You create every reward yourself — label, coin price and which kid it applies to.

Can siblings save up for a reward together?

Yes. From two profiles onwards a reward can be marked as joint. It then has a total price that each kid can contribute to flexibly — nobody has to pay exactly half.

What if I cannot deliver a reward a kid already redeemed?

You can return it. The coins are refunded to the kid in full and the reward disappears from the list of open payouts.
