Setting up your devices

PiggyTask adapts to your setup, not the other way round. A tablet on the kitchen wall works just as well as one phone per kid — you decide during setup, and you can change it later.

First: cloud or offline

On first start PiggyTask asks how this device should store data.

Cloud version (recommended). Data lives in the cloud and syncs across all devices. That needs a family account. Only the names and tasks you enter yourself are stored — no other personal data.

You create the family account in the app for iPhone, iPad or Android — that is also where everything around Premium lives. The browser only offers sign-in with an existing account; the offline version still works there without one.

Offline version. Everything stays local on this device. No account, no internet. This is the most data-frugal option and the right one if you only ever use one device. The price: no sync, no integrations, and in a browser the data can be lost when the cache is cleared — for reliable offline use, install the app rather than using the web version.

Then: what kind of device

Next you set the role this device plays. This is the decision that shapes everyday use the most.

Shared device

One device for the whole family — the kitchen tablet, the old spare Fire tablet, the family laptop. It shows all kid profiles side by side, with the parent area behind the PIN.

It is the only device type that also works offline, and for many families the best start: a device that visibly sits in one place quietly becomes the family dashboard. An account is only needed for the cloud version.

Parent device

A parent's own phone, with full access to family management. Handy for creating a task or approving a reward while out. If you have your own adult profile, it can be shown here as well.

Cloud version only — without sync a second device would be pointless.

Profile device

A single kid's own device. It shows only that one profile and no parent area. For older kids with their own phone this is the right mode: their own tasks, their own progress, no access to management.

Cloud only, and a parent must have created the family account beforehand from a parent or shared device.

The parent PIN

Before you continue you set a four-digit PIN. It protects the parent area and later changes to the device setup — so a kid at the shared device cannot quietly delete their own tasks or credit themselves some coins.

Kid profiles can optionally have their own profile PIN, if siblings should stay out of each other's profiles.

A typical setup

The three device types are not mutually exclusive — most families mix them:

You can add a device at any time: install the app, sign in with the same family account, pick the device type. And the storage mode can be switched later in the settings.

Appearance and language

During setup you also pick the appearance — dark, light or system — and can change it later in the settings. It applies per device, not per family: the wall tablet can stay dark while the parent phone follows the system.

Language is set in the settings too. German, English, Spanish, French and Turkish are available.
